Methods of diagnosis of mental retardation
This method is used to assess cognitive abilities and non-verbal intelligence. The test is intended for children aged 3 and over. It allows you to detect not only a delay in neurodevelopment, but also evaluates the intellectual level and determines the potential of the tested person.
The test is conducted by the child performing various tasks that assess such aspects as memory, attention, thinking, speech development and others. The testing process is conducted by a specialist in a specialized office using interactive games and tasks designed for a specific age level of the child.

At our Erudite Centre, there is a FREE rehabilitation program for children with disabilities who need assistance and support from specialized professionals.
Our centres are equipped with specialized and modern equipment, devices, trainers, and, of course, a highly qualified team of professionals from various fields.
The rehabilitation program is covered by the state according to Decree No. 309 dated March 27, 2019, by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
A sample application can be obtained from us or drafted in any form, but it must include details about the chosen rehabilitation centre for the child with disabilities (i.e., if you choose our centre, the submitted documents must specify our institution as the provider of rehabilitation services).
Additionally, the following copies must be provided with the application:
- Document certifying the identity of the child;
- Health plan issued by the VCC;
- Extract from the medical history (form No. 027/u).
Local authorities, in turn, carry out the following actions:
- Verify the presence of the provided documents;
- Ensure the current registration of the list of children who need rehabilitation and the adherence to the sequence of their direction for rehabilitation measures;
- Familiarize the representative of the child, directed to the children's rehabilitation centre, with the list of institutions where rehabilitation for children with CP and other conditions can be carried out (this list includes the Erudite Centre);
- Enter information about the child and their provision of health services into the centralized database on disability issues.

- Suspected developmental disorders: If parents, teachers or medical professionals have suspicions about the child's normal mental development.
- Systematic learning difficulties: If a child has systematic learning difficulties, especially compared to peers.
- Social and emotional problems: The emergence of social or emotional problems, such as isolation, aggression or emotional instability.
- Speech delay: If the child has a delay in the development of speech or communication skills.
- Suspected autism or ADHD: If autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is suspected.
- Heredity or medical factors: If there is a heredity of developmental disorders or other medical factors that may affect the child's mental development.

We came with our child under decree 309, and we immediately called and received very polite and accessible consultation. We had a comprehensive schedule, meaning 4 sessions a day, 5 days a week. We stayed for 3 weeks, and during all these days, we saw significant results and received many tips from specialists that truly helped and continue to help us. All the specialists are simply great and friendly. Our child adapted within about 5 days, and then we gradually saw significant results, such as increased attentiveness and the ability to sit still. Our child had hearing impairments, and we came for rehabilitation after cochlear implantation, meaning he had been hearing for only 2 months before we went to the centre. Immediately after returning home after 3 weeks, our child began active babbling, saying "ma-ma-ma" continuously and also "am-am". Diagnosis can take several hours. It is important to consider that diagnosis can include several stages, such as history, clinical examination, psychological testing, screening for developmental disorders and consultations with various specialists.
- Individualization and Contextualization: Information gathering and assessment of a child's development must take into account the child's unique needs, family environment, and other factors that affect the child's development.
- Complexity of assessment: Using a variety of methods and tools to assess different aspects of mental development, such as cognitive abilities, speech, social skills and emotional state.
- Cooperation and interaction with parents and guardians: Inclusion of parents or guardians in the diagnostic process, joint discussion of results and development of an action plan for further development and support of the child.

Diagnosis of mental retardation can be made at any age, starting from early childhood. Even in the first months of life, signs of developmental disorders can be detected, but accurate diagnosis can be more difficult due to developmental characteristics and limited communication skills of very young children.
